THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM

As United Methodists we believe that baptism was given to us by God as a "means of grace", a way to receive God's power in our lives.  We believe that, through baptism, we are given new birth through water and the

Spirit, as God performs his mighty acts of salvation:

          - He begins a relationship with us, claiming us as his own special possession.

          - He gives us grace and power to believe in him, and become a Christian one day.

          - He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit, God’s own presence within us to comfort, guide, convict and teach.

These are the acts of God in baptism.  They are all God’s gift, offered to us without a price.  With these beliefs it makes sense to us to baptize anyone who wants to be baptized:  infants, teens and adults.

Below is a typical Baptism at Asbury!

At a recent baptism, Pastor Dan charged  the parents and our church family to bring the child up in a Christian home, and to love him as God loves us.  He then led the congregation in a response with which we promise to be there as a church family to help support the family and Bryan as Christian examples for him to follow.

Pastor Dan then introduced Bryan to the congregation as he walked with him slowly up the isle and then back to his parents.
