United Methodist Women is made up of of 3 circles at the present time:

JANE PAYNE CIRCLE was named for Jane Elizabeth Payne, Ph.D., who grew up in Platea, PA.  After graduating from the Albion Area High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Edinboro State Teacher’s College and Master’s Degree from the Pennsylvania Penn State University.

She taught kindergarten in the Girard School District for five years before becoming a missionary under the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.  She spent 17 years learning the language and teaching English at Seiwa College for Women in Nishinomiya, Japan.

In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s she conducted several tours, bringing Japanese college students, in cooperation with the United Church of Christ in Japan, to the U.S. and taking Americans to Japan to increase their understanding of each other’s cultures.

She returned to the U.S. in the early 1980’s and proceeded to Indiana University where she earned her Ph.D.  She has also served as pastor of several United Methodist Churches in the South Indiana Conference.  She currently lives in Dayton, Ohio and hopes to attend United Theological Seminary in the near future.  She has been a member of Asbury UMC since Platea UMC was closed and appreciates all of the support she has enjoyed from the church and the Jane Payne Circle.

BETTY DALBEY CIRCLE was named for the Rev. H. Elizabeth Dalbey, who was one of the first women to be ordained an elder in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.  After growing up in the Pittsburgh area, she graduated from Edinboro Normal School.  She taught for several years, then entered missionary training.
She served as a home missionary in Ohio and Nebraska, a foreign missionary in Korea and the Belgian Congo, an administrator of a neighborhood house in Delaware, and as pastor of the Wattsburg, Lowville, Phillipsville Charge in Erie County and the Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh.  Her family lived here and she considered Asbury her “home” church returning here in her retirement.  Her last years were spent at Westbury Retirement Home in Meadville.

FAITH CIRCLE was formed in 2001 by a group of women who wanted to fellowship and serve.  Most members are employed during the day, therefore, Faith Circle found that meeting in the evening worked for them.  Faith Circle have annually supported service projects such as Christmas at the Refuge, flood buckets and college and military care boxes, while also visiting community locations and having a card and craft outreach.  Speakers have been invited to enable the Faith Circle to befome more familiar with a specific topic.  Ladies who are looking to connect to a small group are always welcome.
